Michael Knowles

After training at RADA Michael spent several years in repertory mainly around London (Watford, Palmer’s Green, Richmond, Bromley etc.). In 1982 he toured in LOCAL AFFAIRS with Irene Handl, soon followed by the stage version of IT AIN’T HALF HOT MUM, which began with a summer season at Scarborough.

Michael is perhaps best known for his portrayal of ‘Captain Ashwood’ in the long running television series IT AIN’T HALF HOT MUM. Other appearances include ROGUE’S ROCK, COME BACK MRS NOAH, the science fiction comedy with Mollie Sugden, TWO’S COMPANY, YES HONESTLY, AGAINST THE CROWD, ARE YOU BEING SERVED?, JACKANORY, BRUSH STROKES, THE DICK EMERY SHOW, 3-2-1, CANNON & BALL SHOW.

Michael has written with Harold Snoad, adapting some 70 episodes of DAD’S ARMY as well as writing several original series such as SHARE AND SHARE ALIKE, IT STICKS OUT A MILE starring John le Mesurier and the comedy HIGH AND DRY starring Bernard Cribbins and Richard Wilson.
