In addition in 1977 he formed his own theatre company, Bloolips, in which he both starred and directed. He toured the UK and the rest of Europe throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, winning 3 Obie Awards (Off-Broadway Theater Award) for the New York productions of LUST IN SPACE, BELLE REPRIEVE and RESIDENT ALIEN.
